Congratulations to the Port Macquarie Vanguard, the Senior Drumline team from St Agnes’ Parish Secondary Schools (MacKillop College, St Joseph's Regional College, and Newman Senior Technical College), who once again proved their national dominance at the 2025 National Drumline Championships held at Presbyterian Ladies’ College, Sydney.

The Vanguard team captured their eighth consecutive Division A title, earning the Overall Grand Champion award with powerful performances in both the mandatory test piece, composed by adjudicator Dr Michael Crawford, and their original show, The Fall of Hyperion. They also claimed multiple section awards, including 1st place in Snares and Basses, and 2nd place in Tenors and Colour Guard.

Joining them on the winner’s podium were the Port Macquarie Brumbies, the Vanguard’s junior counterpart, who won Division B for the first time. Their captivating test piece and standout original show, Brat Pack, saw them sweep the division, including a 2nd place in Basses.

The victories mark a historic achievement for the St Agnes’ Drumline Program – their first-ever ‘double crown’ across both divisions.

Drumline Director Mark Spence, who writes and choreographs every show, said, ‘To walk away with both titles was incredible. The kids were elated – and they earned it.’

This success continues a legacy that began in 2014 and has grown into a nationally recognised powerhouse of youth percussion.

With talent, dedication, and teamwork, the Vanguard and Brumbies continue to set the national benchmark in student drumline excellence
