Certificate of Religious Education (NSW)

All teachers employed on a permanent contract in a Parish school or College within the Diocese of Lismore agree to hold Religious Education or Theology qualifications equivalent to the Certificate of Religious Education (NSW) within the first five years of their employment.

The Catholic Education Office, Lismore, offers the Certificate of Religious Education (NSW)

This course aims to provide teachers with the necessary knowledge to communicate the teachings of the Catholic faith to their students. The Certificate of Religious Education is recognised as a basic formal qualification by each Diocese of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. This course requires the satisfactory completion of eight units over a period of two years.

Teacher Accreditation

Accreditation to teach Religious Education in the Diocese of Lismore is offered once a year.  Teachers who hold qualifications in Religious Education or Theology are welcome to apply for this accreditation. The other Dioceses of New South Wales  recognise each other's accreditation.
