Applications are sought from suitably qualified Catholic educators for the position of Leader of Pedagogy for the terms 3 and 4 of the 2018 school year.  Applicants should consider that the continuing position of Leader of Pedagogy at St Francis Xavier’s Primary School from 2019 will be advertised later this year.

St Francis Xavier’s Primary School, Ballina, is attractively situated on the far north coast of NSW, is a ministry of the local Catholic Parish and enjoys a strong presence in the local community.

We provide a dynamic learning experience for children from Kinder to Year 6 with a current enrolment of around 400 students.  As one of three schools within our parish we proudly witness to our Catholic faith and the traditions of the Presentation sisters who founded our school  We offer contemporary learning environments for our students, rich with dynamic pedagogies, technology and flexible learning spaces.

Our parish school is strengthened by positive relationships between our staff, parents and the wider community.

The employment of a Leader of Pedagogy (LOP) in each school is a significant development for the diocese.  The focus of this position will be on continuous improvement of teaching and learning.

The LOP will support teachers in the development, refinement and sharing of their teaching practice to improve learning outcomes for every student.  As such, the LOP will be highly visible in classrooms working cooperatively with teachers and the school administration.  The LOP will be widely recognised as an outstanding teacher who can successfully model high quality practice for his/her colleagues across the school even in subjects with which they may be unfamiliar.  The LOP will be a person who can contribute to the Catholic life of the parish school.

Applicants for the position of Leader of Pedagogy will be able to comply with the following criteria:

  1. Integrate Catholic beliefs and practices into all aspects of teaching and learning
  2. Assist the Principal in the implementation of the CSO Action Plan
  3. Ensure the promotion of the school’s Professional Learning Community
  4. Contribute to the building of teacher capacity
  5. Contribute to the development of leadership in the school
  6. Manage the collection of data required to demonstrate evidence-based teaching
  7. Contribute to the effective promotion of pedagogy across the diocese

Selection Criteria – All applicants should have:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to Catholic faith practice
  2. Experience in teaching a range of year levels in a variety of learning formats and environments
  3. Demonstrated ability to successfully establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships in a professional capacity
  4. Deep knowledge of the NSW Australian Curriculum
  5. Ability to work as a member of a leadership team

A minimum qualification of Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership or Pedagogy is preferable. A written application must contain a statement on how you meet the selection criteria and a professional resume with a minimum of three referees including your local Parish Priest:

If you are moving to NSW from another Australian state or territory, and you want to work as a teacher in NSW, you will be required to be accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Each employer in NSW may have their own employment criteria and you should ensure you are aware of any specific requirements such as tertiary study in specific areas.

Already registered with another Australian teaching body?  
 
If you hold current full registration from another Australian teacher registration body, your registration may be recognised by NESA.  You will still need to apply for Provisional or Conditional Accreditation in NSW. You can then apply to have your interstate registration recognised through a process called Mutual Recognition.
