Evangelisation

Evangelisation is the Proclamation of the Gospel to “go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”. (Matt 28:19-20) It is a call to faith and discipleship in Christ.

The Diocese of Lismore is answering the challenge of a New Evangelisation-proclaiming the Gospel with new ardour, methods and expression, in engaging with the present-day culture and modern man.

New Evangelisation includes preaching to those Christian communities who have ancient roots but who “have lost a living sense of the faith, or even no longer consider themselves members of the Church, and live a life far removed from Christ and his Gospel”. (Pope John Paul II) Thus, its task is to promote a renewed commitment to Christ and the Church for those who may have already heard an initial proclamation to faith but who may be experiencing “the progressive secularization of society and a sort of ‘eclipse of the sense of God'” (Pope Benedict XVI).
