St Finbarr’s
Primary School

Byron Bay

Co-ed [K-6]

Please Note: This position was incorrectly advertised as Assistant Principal in last Saturday’s Sydney Morning Herald and Brisbane Courier Mail (9 September 2017).

The Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Lismore and Parish Priest, Fr David Gilbey are seeking applications from suitably qualified Catholic educators for the position of Principal of St Finbarr’s Primary School, Byron Bay, for commencement from Term 1, 2018. St Finbarr’s Primary School is a ministry of the local Catholic Parish and enjoys a strong presence in the local community.

St Finbarr’s Primary School is a vibrant school community where every child is valued and known by name.  Loving, Growing and Learning for Life is our school motto, which underpins all we do. Our supportive learning environment enables children to grow and love like Jesus, through the values of compassion, justice, respect and consideration. St Finbarr’s Primary School forms part of the Lismore Diocesan School System, provides excellent educational programs in the Catholic Tradition, and is a vital part of the community.
Byron Bay is internationally renowned for its natural attractions, breath-taking bushwalks, hinterland rainforests and spectacular coastline. Just 67 km to Coolangatta airport and 35 km to Ballina airport, Byron Bay is the perfect destination for adventure or relaxation.

There is also a level of transience in the local community. As with many rural parish communities there is a strong preference for school staff to be resident and active participants within the community.
We seek a results-focused Principal willing to embrace a collaborative leadership style with staff and work closely with the leadership team and Parish Priest to continue to strengthen the relationship between school and parish.
If you have these qualities, and are fully committed to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church, we welcome your application.

Information for teachers from interstate
If you are moving to NSW from another Australian state or territory, and you want to work as a teacher in NSW, you will be required to be accredited by the National Education Standards Authority (NESA). Each employer in NSW may have their own employment criteria and you should ensure you are aware of any specific requirements such as tertiary study in specific areas.

Already registered with another Australian teaching body?
If you hold current full registration from another Australian teacher registration body, your registration may be recognised by NESA.  You will still need to apply for Provisional or Conditional Accreditation in NSW. You can then apply to have your interstate registration recognised through a process called Mutual Recognition.
